Did you know that the uses of vinegar are almost endless?
Besides being great for use in cooking, it also has wonderful health benefits (Apple Cider Vinegar that is….) as well as being great for cleaning!
Instead of using toxic and/or expensive cleaning products, why not try out some of these ideas:
Note: Undiluted, plain white vinegar is used unless otherwise specified.
Note: These formulas and substitutions are offered to help minimize the use of toxic substances in your home. Results may vary and cannot be guaranteed to be 100% effective. Before applying any cleaning formulations, test in small hidden areas if possible.
In the Bathroom
Remove stains from the toilet bowl by spraying with vinegar and leaving overnight. Clean taps with a mixture of 1 part salt to four parts vinegar. Soak showerheads in vinegar overnight to remove corrosion or chemical build-up. Spray shower walls with vinegar to help prevent mildew.
In the Kitchen
To clean fruit of residues and wax, add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to a sink full of water and add your fruit. Soak for 10 minutes. Water will be dirty and your fruit will be sparkling! For an all purpose cleaner mix 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda into 2 litres of water and you can add a few drops of citrus essential oils if you wish. Store and keep. For a clogged drain, first pour in 1/2 cup baking soda and then add an equal amount of vinegar. When the mixture finishes bubbling, rinse with warm water. Put a microwave safe bowl of 1/2 cup vinegar and 1 cup water in the microwave oven, and cook long enough to boil. This will loosen any food from the microwave’s walls and eliminate odours. To remove strong scents like onion and garlic and stains on your hands, rub with vinegar after. Make a paste of salt and vinegar and rub onto china to remove tea and coffee stains. You can use vinegar instead of rinse aid in your dishwasher for sparkling dishes!
