Water is one of the most abundant and important substances in your body, making up 55-75 % of your total bodyweight and everybody knows the importance of drinking enough water. Aside from its benefits to your skin, muscles and organs, it aids in digestion and helps detoxify your body.
When you’re a baby you’re 75 % water and as the years get higher, you get drier!
According to a new study this year from the University of Birmingham – the researchers worked with 84 obese adults in a 12 week study and found that drinking 500ml of water thirty minutes before a meal helped participants lose almost 4.5kg more than participants who did not drink water.
Dr Helen Parretti, NIHR Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, explained, “The beauty of these findings is in the simplicity. Just drinking a pint of water (500mL), three times a day, before your main meals may help reduce your weight.”
To ensure you drink enough water every day, the secret is to tie drinking water to a routine activity. For example, if you drive or take the bus to and from work every day, fill up a 600ml bottle and make sure you finish it before the end of the journey. You can pick any activity, as long as it’s something you do at least most days the week.
